Summary
PROFIS Engineering introduces support for supplementary reinforcement in the Anchoring to Concrete module using both the EN 1992-4 and Hilti Design Method based on EN 1992-4 (Formally known as SOFA). By considering supplementary reinforcement in tension and shear applications, the software can account for increased anchorage resistance, helping engineers achieve more efficient and optimised designs.
Prerequisites
Make sure you:
- Are logged in to your PROFIS Engineering account
- Have opened the Anchoring to Concrete module
If needed, refer to the article. How to access the Anchoring to Concrete module in PROFIS Engineering.
Key highlights of the Supplementary Reinforcement Design
- Supports tension and shear supplementary reinforcement, allowing the contribution of additional reinforcement to be considered in anchor design calculations.
- Available with EN 1992-4 and the Hilti Design Method, providing a consistent software-supported design workflow.
- Improves anchor resistance by accounting for additional reinforcing bars surrounding the anchors, enabling a more realistic representation of reinforcement behaviour in the concrete member.
- Enhanced resistance calculations using the Hilti Design Method based on EN 1992-4 when the No Annular Gap option is selected.
You can now access this feature in PROFIS as follows:
- Under Loads/Calculation Tab, select the SOFA-based on EN 1992-4 design method.
- On the Reinforcement tab, select the required supplementary reinforcement type from the available options.
If needed, refer to the article. How to define and modify supplementary reinforcement in Anchoring to Concrete module
Notes
- Rebar diameters Φ18 and Φ20 are now supported when using supplementary reinforcement and can be designed in accordance with the Hilti Design Method based on EN 1992-4.
- For static loading, the design considers the contribution of both concrete and supplementary reinforcement. For seismic loading, the anchorage resistance is based on supplementary reinforcement only.
