Summary

Selecting the correct load type and design method ensures that PROFIS Engineering applies the appropriate assumptions for load behavior, design checks, and calculation models.

Prerequisites

Make sure you are logged in to your PROFIS Engineering account and have opened the Concrete to Concrete module. If you need help accessing the module, click here for step‑by‑step instructions.

You have entered all required design inputs.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Go to Loads / calculation type tab
In your Concrete to Concrete design workspace, go to the Loads / calculation type tab on the left-hand side of the screen.

  2. Select the Load type
Go to Load type and select the desired option.
The static or quasi-static design option is enabled by default.

  3. Define Seismic load type (if applicable)
Go to Load type and select the seismic design option.
Enter the development length multiplier. Default value is one.
Additionally, choose appropriate steel overstrength factor and additional offset as per code requirement.

  4. Define Fire load type (if applicable)
Go to Load type and select the fire design option.
When fire-resistance rating is selected as fire input type, select appropriate fire-resistance rating from the dropdown list.

When fire temperature in the rebar is selected as fire input type, enter the temperature.

  5. Select the design method
Go to the Design method selection and select the desired design code selection from the dropdown menu.
    Choose splice classes.
Option to enable Allow for research-based design methods, Design for yield and Splice to existing reinforcement depends on the design code selection.

Tip

Design method options and anchor design provisions are dependent on the selected application (Extension, Structural Joints, Shear Doweling). Click the information (i) button for additional guidance on the various design options.
