Summary
Selecting the correct post‑installed strengthening element and configuring its layout ensures that PROFIS Engineering models the shear strengthening system accurately. These inputs determine post-installed element capacity, spacing, installation direction, and behaviour across different strengthening zones.
Prerequisites
Make sure you:
- Are logged in to your PROFIS Engineering account
- Have opened the Shear strengthening module
- Have defined Concrete geometry and the Number of Zones under the Base Material tab
If needed, refer to the article How to access the Shear strengthening module in PROFIS Engineering.
Step-by-step instructions
-
Open the Post-installed element tab
In your Shear strengthening design workspace, navigate to the Post-installed element tab on the left-hand side of the screen.
Here you can define the strengthening elements and Zones.Select the Post‑Installed Strengthening Element
-
Choose the product family
Under Family, select the desired injection system + fastening element combination.
Use the arrow icon to browse available families. -
Select the product type
Use the Type dropdown to pick the specific product.
This section gets automatically updated based on your product family selection.
You may click View approval to review product approval document. -
Select the size of post-installed element
Choose the appropriate Size from the dropdown.
The post-installed element diameter affects:- Drill hole size
- Embedment depth
-
Spacing and edge distance limits
Define the Strengthening Layout for Each Zone
After selecting the element, expand the Zone section to configure layout parameters. You can modify number of zones in the base material tab.
-
Enable strengthening elements
Check Define strengthening elements to activate the zone.
Each active zone allows independent layout configuration. -
Select the installation direction
Use the Installation direction dropdown to choose from:- Configuration A
- Configuration B
- Configuration C
Click the information (i) button to view diagrams explaining installation direction options, including which sides of the element can be drilled depending on support conditions (end support, intermediate support, foundation, etc.).
-
Define spacing
Enter the required spacing:- Spacing in x
- Spacing in y
Use + / – buttons or type values manually.
Spacing influences shear capacity distribution. -
Define minimum edge distances
Enter:- Min. edge distance in x
-
Min. edge distance in y
-
Define transverse eccentricity
Enter Transverse eccentricity as needed.
Click the information (i) button to view diagrams showing how eccentric placement reduces the effective shear width of the concrete section. -
Repeat for additional zones
If your strengthening design includes multiple regions, repeat steps 5 to 9 for each zone as required by the project.
Tip
Use the information (i) buttons frequently, especially for installation direction and transverse eccentricity. These pop‑ups provide clear visual guidance and ensure your strengthening layout aligns with actual support conditions and post-installed element behaviour.
