Summary
Defining the existing longitudinal and (optionally) existing shear reinforcement allows PROFIS Engineering to correctly model the current capacity of the concrete member before adding post‑installed strengthening elements.
Prerequisites
Make sure you:
- Are logged in to your PROFIS Engineering account
- Have opened the Shear strengthening module
If needed, refer to the article How to access the Shear strengthening module in PROFIS Engineering.
Step-by-step instructions
-
Open the Existing reinforcement tab
In your Shear strengthening design workspace, navigate to the Existing reinforcement tab on the left-hand side of the screen. -
Enter material strength
Under Materials, fill in the value for Tensile reinforcement yield strength using the input field or the + / – buttons. -
Define existing reinforcement per zone
Expand Reinforcement - Zone 1.
Here you can enter:- Total cross-sectional area per section or zonal width
- Cover to reinforcement in the compression zone
-
Effective height
-
Define Existing Shear Reinforcement (Optional)
Enable Define shear reinforcement (only if appropriate).
Read the warning message in the pop-up and click OK.Enter contribution from existing shear reinforcement.
-
Repeat for Additional Zones (if applicable)
Expand Reinforcement – Zone 2, Zone 3 or Zone 4, and repeat steps 2–3.
Each zone may have different reinforcement properties depending on the actual structural layout.
Tip
Use the information buttons (i) throughout the Materials and Reinforcement sections, they provide visual explanations and design guidance for effective depth, compression cover, and reinforcement area.
