Summary
Defining the installation conditions ensures that PROFIS Engineering applies the correct drilling method, hole condition, temperature, and surface treatment, so that the post-installed element performance reflects realistic installation practices used on site. These inputs tell the software how the hole is made and what condition it’s in, so it can use the correct capacities from approvals and test data.
Prerequisites
Make sure you:
- Are logged in to your PROFIS Engineering account
- Have opened the Concrete overlay module
If needed, refer to the article How to access the Concrete overlay module in PROFIS Engineering.
Step-by-step instructions
-
Open the Installation conditions tab
In your Concrete overlay design workspace, navigate to the Installation conditions tab on the left-hand side of the screen.
You will see three main inputs:- Temperature
- Surface treatment
-
Installation conditions
-
Define temperature
Expand Temperature section.
Here you can type in the temperature values or use the “+ / –” controls to increase or decrease them.Note:
- Short term temperature represents the highest temperature the concrete may experience for brief periods.
-
Long term temperature represents the typical, sustained temperature condition of the concrete over time, such as seasonal averages or consistently heated/cooled environments.
-
Select the surface treatment
Expand Surface treatment section.
Open the Joint roughness dropdown and choose the option to be used on site. -
Select the drilling type
Expand Installation conditions section.
Open the Drilling type dropdown and choose the drilling method to be used on site.Note: Drilling type refers to the method used to create the hole in the concrete. This influences the surface roughness and geometry of the hole, which in turn affects performance of the fastening element, thereby impacting the design strength.
-
Select the hole type
Open the Hole type dropdown and choose the condition of the hole expected at time of installation.
Note: Moisture conditions can influence bond strength and adhesive behaviour. -
Select the overlay position
Expand Overlay position section.
Choose between Upper overlay and bottom overlay.
Note: Overlay position becomes available only when beam strengthening application is selected.
Tip
Long term and short term temperatures under Temperature are service temperatures, not the concrete temperature at installation.
