Summary

The load combination panel in the Concrete-over-metal-deck module allows you to create, modify, import, and delete load combinations so that PROFIS Engineering can evaluate anchor performance under all required loading scenarios. This article guides you on how to efficiently use this panel for your design.

Prerequisites

Make sure you:

  • Are logged in to your PROFIS Engineering account
  • Have opened the Concrete-over-metal-deck module

If needed, refer to the article How to access the Concrete-over-metal-deck module in PROFIS Engineering.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open the Load Combination panel
In your Concrete-over-metal-deck design workspace, scroll to the Load Combination panel at the bottom of the screen.
Here you will see a table listing each load combination, including:
    • Load type
    • Tension, shear or moment
    • Maximum utilization (Calculated)

  2. Edit existing combinations
Click on the static or seismic design icon to switch the Load type.

Click inside any cell for forces/moment to type new values.
Your changes automatically update in the table and the installation length is calculated.

Note: You can also edit the loads using the 3D view of the design.

  1. Create a new load combination
Click Input custom factored loads (enabled only for PROFIS Premium users).
This creates a blank row where you can enter your loads.
Enter load details and click ✓ (apply) or ✖ (cancel) icons to confirm or discard your input, respectively.

Select the radio button to switch the active load combination.

  2. Create load combinations automatically
Select Create load combinations (enabled only for PROFIS Premium users).

In the pop‑up, click Yes to proceed.

Choose the desired load combinations and click Next.

Enter the unfactored service loads and select Save.

The Load Combination panel will update automatically.
Click Edit load combinations to modify any existing values.

  3. Import factored loads from a spreadsheet
Click Import factored loads from a spreadsheet (enabled only for PROFIS Premium users).

A pop‑up will appear with a paste field.
    Steps to import:

    1. Copy your factored load table from Excel or another source
    2. Paste it into the pop‑up window
    3. Click Apply

The system automatically fills in the load combinations based on your pasted data.

  1. Choose calculation mode
Below the load combination table, select one of the two calculation options, when working with multiple load combinations (enabled only for PROFIS Premium users):
    • Calculate all combinations (slower)
    • Calculate active combination only (faster)

To quickly identify the governing combination, click Update to decisive. This option becomes available only when new load combination is added.

  1. Delete a combination
Click the trash bin icon on the right-hand side of any load combination row.
Deleted combinations cannot be recovered, so ensure you remove only those no longer needed.

Click on the warning icon to view warnings, if any.

Tip

For larger projects with many factored loads, use the Import factored loads from a spreadsheet option. It reduces manual input time and helps avoid typing errors in complex designs.
