Summary
The load combination table in the Concrete overlay module allows you to define shear forces / stresses acting on the strengthened concrete member. These loads can be assigned per section (zone), enabling PROFIS Engineering to verify shear demand and calculate the required post‑installed element layout for each strengthening zone accurately.
Prerequisites
Make sure you:
- Are logged in to your PROFIS Engineering account
- Have opened the Concrete overlay module
- Input all your design requirements and have defined the strengthening zones
If needed, refer to the article How to access the Concrete overlay module in PROFIS Engineering.
Step-by-step instructions
-
Select load type
In your Concrete overlay design workspace, go to the Loads /calculation type on the left-hand side of the screen.
Select the Load type.Note: Whenever you switch the load type, the following message appears. Read and click OK. Take the recommended action.
Under Loading definition, select the Loading input type.
-
Go to the load combination panel
In your Concrete overlay design workspace, navigate to the Load Combination panel located at the bottom of the screen.
-
Input loads
Depending on the selected load type and loading input type, enter values under:-
Static load
-
Shear force / stress per section or zonal width
-
-
Seismic load
-
Shear force / stress per section or zonal width
-
Shear force / stress per section or zonal width
-
Fatigue load
-
Static load
-
Modify an existing load combination
- Click directly inside any value field (Zone 1, Zone 2, etc.)
- Update the load using direct input or overwrite the value
Changes take effect immediately and update the design checks.
-
Add load combination
To enable this option, go to the Product tab and set Connector position to user defined.
Click Add load combination.
This creates a blank row where you can enter your loads.
Enter load details and click ✓ (apply) or ✖ (cancel) icons to confirm or discard your input, respectively. To quickly identify the governing combination, click Update to decisive. This option becomes available only when new load combination is added.
-
Import load combination
To enable this option, go to Product tab and set Connector position to user defined.
Click Import load combinations.A pop‑up will appear with a paste field.
Steps to import:- Copy your factored load table from Excel or another source.
- Paste it into the pop‑up window.
- Click Apply.
The system automatically fills in the load combinations based on your pasted data.
-
Choose calculation mode
Below the load combination table, select one of the two calculation options, when working with multiple load combinations:- Calculate all combinations (slower)
- Calculate active combination only (faster)
To quickly identify the governing combination, click Update to decisive. This option becomes available only when new load combination is added.
-
Delete a combination
Click the trash bin icon on the right-hand side of any load combination row.
Deleted combinations cannot be recovered, so ensure you remove only those no longer needed.
Click on the warning icon to view warnings, if any.
Tip
Defining zone‑specific loads improves design accuracy and prevents over‑ or under‑strengthening.
