Summary

Selecting the correct load type and design method ensures that PROFIS Engineering applies the appropriate assumptions for load behaviour, design checks, and calculation models. These settings directly influence how loads are interpreted and how anchor forces, failure modes, and design capacities are evaluated.

Prerequisites

Make sure you:

  • Are logged in to your PROFIS Engineering account
  • Have opened the Concrete overlay module
  • Have entered all required design inputs

If needed, refer to the article How to access the Concrete overlay module in PROFIS Engineering.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Go to Loads / Calculation Type
In your Concrete overlay design workspace, go to the Loads / Calculation type on the left-hand side of the screen.

  2. Select the Load type
Under Load type, select one of the following:
    • Static design
    • Seismic design
    • Fatigue design
The Static load option is enabled by default.

  3. Define Seismic category (if applicable)
Go to Load type and select the seismic suitable seismic category.
By default, seismic design category C1 is selected.

Choose to whether or not to allow concrete failure mode in existing structure and overlay.
Note: Whenever you switch the load type, the following message appears. Read and click OK. Take the recommended action.

  4. View design method
Under design, the design guideline is displayed.

  5. Input sustained load ratio
Under Factored load input, enter the value of sustained load ratio.

  6. Input value of stress perpendicular to the interface
Under Stress, enter the value of stress acting perpendicular to the interface.

  7. Select input type for load
Under Loading definition, choose the desired Loading input type. Input load values in the bottom panel under the 3D model.

  8. Define minimum interface reinforcement (optional)
In the Consideration of Min. Interface Reinforcement section, enable Min. reinforcement if you want PROFIS Engineering to include the minimum interface reinforcement requirements specified by the design standard.
